Mama’s Walking Hat
My mom needs a hat for the mornings when it’s cold out. She and my step-dad are faithful about their morning walks, and occasionally it gets just a little chilly even living at the coast. So, I decided that seemed like a good enough excuse for another hat! I heart making hats this year. They seem to have taken the place of sock-knitting for me, at least for the beginning of 2009. So, anyway, the hat was supposed to look like this…but I only had two solid colored leftovers of sock yarn, and all the rest are variegated. So, I used the pattern with variegated yarn and I ended up with this result.
I actually like a lot of things about it, but some I was a little disappointed with…for one it’s not the nice quiet little “fair isle” beret that I liked the pattern for in the first place. The other is the dark color. I’d do that differently too if I make this one again. I really like how the variegated yarn made kind of little abstract flowers when I used it for a stranded pattern section. There are more views on the flicker set. If you click on the picture, it should take you there.
I hope she likes it. And it fits. And it keeps her little power-walking head warm.
ETA: She loved it. So did the cat. Evidently I got a little catnip on it by mistake after filling the felted mice with catnip. Oops! I guess that’s a good kind of cross contamination.
