Hello Friday!

in Raglan Cardigan,WebStops

Remember the raglan cardigan which appeared to be – shall we say – LARGE? Well, as it turns out – it is quite large.

I always wondered how (or is it “why?”) knitters would make a sweater that’s “obviously” too big for them and just keep knitting it. Now I know! Fortunately – it appears to be my husband’s size and the color is a nice one on him. He’s not really much of a cold-blooded person though so it’s unknown how much wear he will actually get out of it this winter – or any winter for that matter – providing the knitting on it ever ends. Did I mention it’s LARGE???

I’ve made him a couple of pair of socks in the past – and those seemed ENDLESS as well. They don’t call him “Big Mike” for nothing. ;-)

Soooo – if I ever get it finished, Smitty’s getting a sweater from me. He’s always such a good sport about wearing things I make him – even the disasters – which, I’d rather he didn’t, but he loves that I made it for him, so he saves those things to wear around the house. Once a friend of ours dropped by when he was wearing a shirt I’d made where one side ended up wrong-side out – we had to explain the whole odd shirt thing. The friend got a good laugh out of it.

So, back to the whole raglan cardigan thing – it’s all the proper gauge, and knitting up exactly the way the pattern “recipe” said it would. What made me think that I needed enough “ease” in a garment that would make it the same size as my husband’s suit jacket is beyond me. But, I’ve learned now that it isn’t all that big of a stretch to make something for yourself that turns out enormous – because now I’ve done it!

Shifting gears here to Friday’s Webstops post -

I don’t know about you, but I’m “always” a day late, and a dollar short when it comes to entering contests or giveaways online – or anywhere for that matter. I often will catch up on my Bloglines reading only to find that five or six of my favorite blogs have had give-aways that ended the day before I checked back in.

Once – I actually discovered that one time I’d won something the day or two before I checked in on a blog I followed. That was a surprise! I gave the blog owner my details for where to mail my winnings – and never heard from them again. I think they stopped blogging about that time. LOL I had to laugh. It’s just so, something that would happen to me. I didn’t really mind though – I had always enjoyed reading that blog and I wasn’t expecting to win anything anyway. It cracked me up though to find I’d won something, but didn’t really. I was most disappointed that they stopped blogging. Can’t remember now who it was – but I always looked forward to seeing their blog had a new post on it in my Bloglines.

Now, on the offchance you have better results with giveaways than I do (and I know Rebekah has been a big wiener a couple of times!) I thought it might be fun to post a couple I’ve run across this week among the Webstops.

May the force be with you –

Webstops

  • One Hundred Hats
  • Yarn On The house
  • Berroco Knits has a book and a knit kit they’re giving away.
  • This one’s over with but Alana regularly has give-aways on her blog/podcast, so you could check back there frequently or subscribe to her podcast if you have time to listen.
  • Not a giveaway per se but Wendy is leading a Knit-Along for a pi shawl that she designed – the pattern is free and she’s there to answer questions if you have any.
  • Not a giveaway or even about knitting – but a really nice blog called Food & Style for people who want to can their own fruits and veggies or just like nice pictures of food! (There are recipes here too.)

well that’s good your husband will wear it. Nick’s been itching for me to make him a new sweater, but he doesn’t wear the one I made him because he’s too warm-blooded. Maybe I’ll make him a cotton sweater.

I’ve given up entering contests or running them. Its too time consuming to think about. :-)

Yeah. I’m right there with you. I have that problem with sweaters that I knit for myself. Sometimes, my sweaters come out too small. I even have a duct-tape body double that I use to make sure that my sweaters don’t come out too small. Either the girls got bigger after I was wrapped in duct tape, or I am not in my right mind when I try the project on the dummy. The last sweater I made looked great on the dummy, but I stretched the heck out of it trying to get it to not be so snug across the front. I think it’s an omen from the knitting gods, saying that I wasn’t going to be very attractive in that sweater in the first place. I try to put a positive spin on my disappointment.
