Another hat! This one is called “Morgan” and it’s from Knitty.com’s Fall 2008 issue. It was a pretty easy knit. Just followed the instructions blindly for the most part, except I didn’t like how they had the “crease” built in to the hat. I looked like a fat “corded” looking thing and I was fairly certain if I did it it’d be a mess – so I just opted for a row of purl for the turning point. I like the nice crisp edge it made.
I used a stash yarn called Baby Star that I got a few years ago from Elann.com. It’s listed as DK weight, but it’s on the slim side for a DK yarn. I’d really like to make this hat again in a tweed…but I don’t have any of that kind of yarn.
Anyway, size 6 circular needles – you need two (or a really long set for magic loop) so I used my lace Addis and my regular Addi turbos. Kind of made it a little easier to keep track of where I was in the pattern too with the needles being different. Both knit up at the same gauge, so that was nice. This is a great pattern to knit on while watching old Magnum P.I. reruns! The pattern is similar to the Fiber Trends Felted Clogs – you have to pay attention, and there is counting and wrapping and turning – only in this case you have to pick up the stupid wraps, cuz it aint felted… Other than that, it was a piece of cake if you just paid attention, I used a post-it note to keep track of what line of the pattern I was on and hilighted the rows as I did them just to make sure I didn’t lose my place. MP has a big head (24 inches), and the size Large fits him great.

What a great hat! My dad would love it. I may just have to go print the pattern to make for him someday.
That hat looks really good!
