Knit On!

Knitting Pure and Simple Hat

I made the cutest hat this weekend. I wasn’t in the mood to make another dishcloth, didn’t have the brain power to work on the sock (flu you know), but wanted a knit project to do once I started feeling a little more like I’d live from being smacked down with the flu. So, I decided to try knitting this left over Cascade 220 into a hat. I have a pattern that looks kind of like Entrelac but is short rows. Well….this is not the project to try with a brain muddled by…did I mention I’ve had the flu?

After about four or five tries, retries and rip-outs, I decided to give that project up for another day. That sent me back into my “archives” of downloaded printed out patterns. (Holy Moly there’s a bunch out there, and yet I STILL want to buy books!) This little hat resulted.

Apparently that yarn just wanted to be this hat! It turned out neat, because it’s stretchy enough that it goes down small enough to sit on Timmie the Doll’s head, but it expands big enough for even my 23-inch cranium. So, I’m pretty happy with the whole thing, because I’m sending it away (think I’ll make me one to keep next) to a friend who needs a hat and whose head size I do not know. I ad-libbed a little on the pattern. Added a little texture with some moss stitch on one of the rounds, think I left one out, and goofed up the final pearl rows, but hey, don’t you just love a pattern that turns out cute DESPITE your best attempt at goofing it up?

I used Profi Bamboo Circular needles. VERY nice needles. My prior experience with bamboo circs were some Clovers that I got at Michael’s, and it was like wrestling with a boa constrictor and the bamboo they used for the needles was kind of pithy. These are made from smooth strong bamboo and a cable that’s soft and pliable and very easy to work with using Magic Loop.

It was a good way to spend a day recuperating from a miserable flu bug. Cough, cough, sniffle….Knit on!
