Baby Sweater from Knitter’s Almanac - The Swatch

Swatching is complete for the baby sweater from Knitter’s Almanac. Mostly I wanted to see what size I’d end up with using size 4 circs. I inherited my grandmother’s stash of acrylic yarns. There weren’t that many, but this white baby yarn was in there, so I used it since it’s similar in size to the superwash merino I want to use for the actual sweater. I plan to sew a little tie of satin ribbon at the neckline, and possibly do snaps down the front. I may just leave the front open though.

It seems to fit it’s recipient (my Madame Alexander doll “Timmie” from circa 1961). She doesn’t mind that it’s “plastic.” She’s vinyl so she’s not a yarn snob.

Saturday sky

I guess it’s not much of a picture. We’ve got clouds gathering though for a storm we’re waiting to blow in by tomorrow. It’s getting a little cold out doors. Nice weather for being inside with knitting in your lap watching the game.

The apple tree is finally deciding it’s time to shed her leaves. She had a pretty good season this year, although we didn’t harvest any apples again. I think next season should be the one that we get some. So far it’s birds and worms 3 us 0. Although, I did taste one this year. It may not have been quite ripe yet, but it tasted like a Granny Smith, so that should make some good pie type apples, I’m thinking. Hope we get to be here to find out. Life seems uncertain these days at the best of times, and we keep hoping that something works out that makes it clear that this is where we are to stay for a while. You know…like a job that pays the bills, that sort of thing.

Mememememe! Ahem….

A meme (rhymes with “theme”), by EllyMae!  Actually, this is my very first actual Meme TAG, and it is for SIX WEIRD THINGS ABOUT YOU.  Only six??  OK…here’s six of the many facets of weirdness that are moi!  Gee, thanks Rebekah!  I’m honored.

  1. I love the SMELL of sheep, dogs and horses.
  2. I can’t stand the feel of powdery things on my hands.  So, when I make bread or anything I need to have my hands touch flour, it’s NOT a “refreshing tactile experience.”
  3. Crunching noises have a similar effect to fingernails on a chalkboard on me.
  4. I love wintertime.  Mind you, I live in California, so I have never had to drive thru snow and ice (since I don’t live in the part of California that GETS snow and ice).  But I love a rainy night, and the hunkered down part of winter.
  5. I cannot leave an open cupboard, drawer or closet door open.   If it’s even a little bit ajar, I have to go close it all the way.  I have tried to just ignore this, but while I’m “ignoring” it - it’s the only thing I can think of, so I have to get up and go close it.
  6. I still twirl my hair between my fingers, especially when I’m talking to someone.  I figure that it’s probably not TOO weird though, because I also like to twirl sheep hair between my fingers - and turn it into dreadlocks - that can then be knit into something warm and snugly to wear like SOCKS!

OK…now that’s the six things about me.  The other part of the Meme was to tag some other six unsuspecting souls.  Hmmm…. maybe #7 on this list would be, I only know one blogger well enough to do that with now, and she’s the one who tagged ME.

Is it Cosy or Cozy?

I have been collecting Tea Cosy (or Cozy) links.

Pleated Tea Cosy

A Felted Tea Cosy from Knitty

Floral Tea Cosy

Daffodil Stitch Tea Cosy

All of these found at: Knitting Pattern Central

More Dishcloths and other "soapy" things.

We’ve been fighting a bug all weekend, so while doing that, I kept busy with a few more dishcloths and a crochet project. So, I have added to the stack this week:

This one is a little crochet’d soap sack. A friend made one for me once, and I found it online, so I made a replacement. Turned out cuter than I thought it was going to, and a Caress bar is just the right shape for a fish! I knitted the I-cord out of each of the two colors I used to make the fish.

An online source for great quantities of this type of knitting yarn, check out the Elmore-Pisgah online store. Of course, there’s always YouKnowWho-Mart, Jo-Anns and Michael’s to name a few others.
