Lucy, Socks that Rock

Almost finished with sock #2. I’m kind of surprised by how HEAVY this yarn is. My previous sock-knitting has been done with either my own homespun, or with Opal or Elann.com’s “Sock it To Me” yarn. Blue Moon Fiberarts Socks that Rock yarn is heaftier. They’ll definitely be one of my “cozier” pair of socks. I like the striping I got. No real “pooling” to speak of at all.

One of my favorite places to buy sock yarn.  Look at this beautiful shawl Astrid has designed and made up kits for.

"Lucy" socks.

Finally getting around to knitting the socks from my “Lucy” Socks That Rock Yarn from Bluemoon Fiberarts. Sorry for the miserably washed-out colors here in this picture, but I’m only working with 2 megapixels, so what can I say…you kind of get the gist of the photograph, right? It’s much prettier in real life.

I do believe I have FINALLY found a gusset I like! The heel flap is knit with a garter-stitch “selvedge” and somehow that enabled me to pick up all those gusset stitches and knit them without any little holes on either side. I really like that! The general “recipe” for the sock is taken from Charlene Schurch’s book Sensational Knitted Socks. What a great book. It gives you kind of mix and match options. A pattern here, a heel there, and do you want that on 3, 4 or 2 needles? Of course, I’ve actually ended up knitting it on ONE needle (magic loop) but I can see how some patterns might lend themselves more to using a different knitting technique than others. I actually started these socks on 4 dpn’s, but eventually ended up just going with the magic loop. It seems to be becoming my most comfortable way of knitting socks. So, why fight it? It’s basically just a K2P2 ribbed sock, but the ribbing is a pattern after the upper cuff. It’s got a lot of stretch to it, plus kind of a lacy look.
