Damsel in Distress…

I have been having the WORST time trying to get a heel knit into these socks I’ve been working on for Michael! I guess I need to actually follow the instructions. I’ve tried a regular heel flap and gusset twice, ripped that out twice, tried a short row heel once, and have now ripped that out. I’m using the Magic Loop method for knitting the sock, and not really having a problem with that, that I can tell, but I’m about ready to just turn these dang socks into TUBE SOCKS! I decided it was a good idea to just let them rest for another day and then when I’m feeling fresh, try the heel again - probably a heel flap heel, but will be using stitch markers, and counting my rows better. I guess I really don’t know how to knit a heel without following along in the directions yet.

See the little damsel fly that posed for a picture today? I get so tickled when butterflies and damsel flies pause in front of me when I’ve got a camera in my hand!

I was actually photographing a Frog Prince when she flew up. (I can call her a “her” if I want to…it’s a Damsel fly, right? So they all should be “hers.”)

Here’s the frog prince she was visiting:

See…I told you he’s a Frog Prince:

Misty Garden FO

I had a little fun with the finished project. Put a few “virtual” butterflies in my garden and photographed Misty Garden out on the porch futon - try clicking the picture if you want a closer look. It’s sure a warm and cozy scarf. I’m desperately almost looking forward to the weather being cold enough to wear it! Definitely looking forward to cooler days. There was a promise in the air this morning. Just one of those crisp [not quite] autumn mornings where it’s cool enough to want to hang out in jammies and fluffy slippers with a cup of coffee and the morning newspaper - as opposed to wondering how long it’s going to be before one needs to close up the place and fire up the A/C. Kind of makes knitting a wool scarf a little bit of an irony, but it gives one a good feeling to know that this winter the scarf won’t need to be knitted - just reached for… Posted by Picasa

Misty Garden

These colors are much warmer than I normally wear. It’s a pretty thing though, and a very enjoyable knit. This yarn is very soft. It’s very cuddly and smooth, and likely will be a favorite scarf for someone… Yarn used is Gedifra Belisana, 70% Kid Mohair, 15% Wool, and 15% Polyamide - which I believe is nylon - Color #7302. I’m using 2 50 gr balls of it and knitting on US 8 needles. This yarn was a purchase from Astrid on eBay. I got it as a substitute to the yarn called for in the pattern in Scarf Style (Jo Sharp Rare Comfort Kid). Two balls of yarn are working up to finished measurements (I have a few inches left to knit in length, and the width is right on the money) quite nicely. Posted by Picasa

Yarn sale

I’m wondering if it means something significant if, when you’re driving by a sign that says “Yard Sale,” you see the words “Yarn Sale.” (I know you can’t see the words here, too much sun on the faded sign, but take my word for it, that’s what it said.) Saturdays are big yard sale days in my neck of the woods. I found myself absentmindedly reading the little signs people posted as we were out and about this morning, and it dawned on me that I had thought one of them said “Yarn” and my heart did a little jumpy thing. I bet that would draw as many knitters as the ones that say “TOOLS” draw all the tool-hunting-yard-salers. This particular Yard Sale was an old gent who, back in his younger days, would lead hunting trips back into the woods. He had some black powder rifles, a saddle and a bunch of other hunting parephernalia available for the mountain folk to pick thru. No yarn in sight.

Sock progress

Here’s progress on the last ball of Opal. I’m almost done with the heel flap on sock #1. Using Magic Loop on a 40″ circ., size 2 needle. I’ll go down a size when I get to the foot, but I like the stretchiness of this size for the cuff/ankle part for us big-foot types. (Stretched the sock over a wine glass for photo.)
