Note to self: Buy a swift.

I’m still relatively new at this “married” stuff. Sometimes, I think I’m fairly good at it, other times I think I’m a tad on the naive side. For instance: How many times do I remember seeing “Charles” on Little House on the Prairie sitting with yarn around his hands while Caroline wound it off into a ball for knitting?
Was Charles just particularly good at, well, EVERYTHING he was asked to do? Or is this just fiction, and men really aren’t all that good at imitating umbrella swifts?
I thought I had a great “married” idea for my newly acquired skein of “Lucy” from Blue Moon Fiberarts. (Yes, I love Wendy’s Lucy too, and couldn’t resist the beautiful colorway named in her honor. Really, Wendy should get royalties for that particular boon.)
But I digress….
Back to my delusions -
Just like Charles, I assumed MP could hold this lovely skein of yarn draped over his hands, and I would wind it off into a center-pull ball, thus making it ready for the next sock project. After all, he’s good at everything else a husband should be good at, right?
Well….suffice it to say, the result was not anything like what Charles and Caroline came up with.
OK…another layer of delusion peeled away. I can see clearly now. Having your husband “OK” with YOU having yarn and knitting needles in YOUR hands every time he turns around is the actual Gold Standard. Putting it in HIS hands like Charles and Caroline…well, your mileage may vary.

I just linked to your site from the Zimmermania blog. I laughed so hard when I read this entry. I too, thought that the husband-as-swift idea was so basic that it couldn’t go wrong. And, considered how frugal my husband is, you would have thought he would have loved the idea. Plus, I remember as a child being the “swift” for my mom. Sadly, it did not go well.
