Spinning on Thursday

I did some spinning today. It’s been a while since I actually sat at the wheel for longer than a couple of minutes. Got on a roll today though, and actually finished spinning the fiber, got it plied, set the twist, and hung out to dry in an afternoon. I guess the 103 degree heat was good for something. I hung the finished damp skeins out on the porch and they were dry in an hour or two. It has since been wound into a center-pull ball - yes, I’m anxious to get started on whatever it’s going to become.

I need to do some more spinning first though (got a complimentary color ordered, so for now I’m done until it gets here), before I’ve got enough for a project of any size.

The resulting yarn was a little bit of a surprize. I thought it would be brighter. It was really REALLY pretty as a bunch of fiber waiting to be spun, teal shot thru with amethyst (very jewel like), but the yarn is kind of duller than I expected. I’m happy with the bulky result I got. I’d gotten into kind of a habit of spinning everything fine, or at the most fingering weight. But, I wanted something with some heft to it, so decided to try for a bulky yarn with this bump I had waiting in the wings. It might end up a felted project - perhaps a tote… Hoping it all speaks to me after I get the lavender fiber. Perhaps another entrelac project.
