California turning golden

One Spring, about 20 years ago now, a friend and I were out driving and we were admiring how beautiful the spring was. The rolling hills of California are beautiful in the spring - green, dotted with wildflowers and it’s just such a welcome sight. Her comment was something like “yeah, too bad it’s all going to turn brown soon.” I called her “Eeyore” - and I still enjoy reminding her of that particular Eeyore-moment. I love the colors that California turns - but I prefer to call it “golden” not “brown”when the green fades. This year, we had kind of a wonky winter/spring - almost no winter, then snow! and then flooding rains - so the hills were kind of conflicted this spring, but things seem to be back on schedule and it’s getting around to Golden now. Still some green left - after all it IS still Spring, right? (Plus we had more late rains.) So…to some it’s “too bad its going to turn brown soon” but to me, it’s just plain pretty out there.
