California turning golden

One Spring, about 20 years ago now, a friend and I were out driving and we were admiring how beautiful the spring was. The rolling hills of California are beautiful in the spring - green, dotted with wildflowers and it’s just such a welcome sight. Her comment was something like “yeah, too bad it’s all going to turn brown soon.” I called her “Eeyore” - and I still enjoy reminding her of that particular Eeyore-moment. I love the colors that California turns - but I prefer to call it “golden” not “brown”when the green fades. This year, we had kind of a wonky winter/spring - almost no winter, then snow! and then flooding rains - so the hills were kind of conflicted this spring, but things seem to be back on schedule and it’s getting around to Golden now. Still some green left - after all it IS still Spring, right? (Plus we had more late rains.) So…to some it’s “too bad its going to turn brown soon” but to me, it’s just plain pretty out there.

Close Enough!

I don’t care if the stripes don’t “match.” I’ve never been one to care about such things most of the time anyway! My biggest concern was getting the heels the same length. The needles are pulling down a little on Sock #2 so it doesn’t look perfect here - but they’re pretty close, so I’m happy with it. Looking forward to being done with this pattern. It makes a tight dense fabric - I’m using US#1 needles - not much stretch to it, but they should wear well. This Sock-It-To me yarn is very affordable at Elann.com. Not the prettiest stuff I’ve found, but I’d recommend it to beginning sock-knitters. It’s inexpensive, and fun to see how the stripes come out as you hone your sock-knitting skills. Posted by Picasa

Saturday again!

Ahhhh….another weekend arrives! I’ve got “a thousand things” I want to accomplish. For many it’s a long weekend, but my work doesn’t lend itself to long weekends. So, this one’s typical - two days to do as many things on the To Do List as you can physically manage. Lady E is on the “home stretch.” I think I’ve got another skein and a half to go before binding off and doing the fringe. I like one of the fringe treatments on the ScarfStyle blog where one knitter beaded the knots on the fringe, so I’m looking at BeadBabe’s Saturday Sale Flyer with an eye to ordering today…they’ve got Swarovski crystals for 50% off. Seems almost wrong not to order, even if a person didn’t have a real reason yet. But, of course I DO!

Sock #2 has been waiting patiently in her sock sack for the weekend too. I get most of my sock knitting done in the car these days, since LadyE is such a good lap dog….or is it Lap Hog? Good thing it’s been kind of coolish this past week, because she’s sure a cozy project to sit and knit. But, I digress….Sock #2. I’m on the heel flap! Actually, there’s a stupid mistake that I considered frogging back to the beginning of the flap. I forgot to slip the first stitch on the knit row. Again, got a little cocky thinking I rememered how it was done so didn’t bother READING my directions again - and forgot that slip stitch until I was in bed that night thinking back on the day and then DING! my synapses re-connected and I remembered that little detail. However, I looked closely at it, and I THINK I can still get away with it when I pick up stitches on that side of the gusset. We shall see! Maybe this weekend!

A New Twist On Grandmother’s Favorite Dishcloth

A New Twist On Grandmother’s Favorite Dishcloth

While surfing a few blogs this morning, I found this site. Fun adaptations on Grandmother’s Favorite Dishcloth…sigh…more things to add to my “To Knit List”.

Homespun to Handknit…and then felt.

Found a picture of my first pair of socks. These were made from some Corriedale that I spun. I have size 11 feet - and I felted them after I tried them on - and they then fit my 4 year old granddaughter! I don’t have a picture of them felted, but they were so soft and fluffy. They made very cozy slipper socks.
