Fledgling sock knitter…

Well, I think I’m becoming hooked on making socks too. Like dishcloths they’re a portable project, and, well…my feet don’t mind mistakes. I do hope to improve in my skills, but what a fun way to learn to knit. Making practical items that can still be used, despite their humble craftsmanship! I recently found an online yarn store (one of MANY) that was selling a sock yarn for a good price. This yarn is called “Sock it To Me” and is a blend of mostly wool with a little nylon in it for stretch. As you knit with it, the yarn stripes itself in sort of a fair-isle patterning. I wanted to try Cat Bordhi’s method of knitting socks on circular needles (since when I made my first pair of socks I kept thinking there MUST be a way to do this on circulars…well…yes, and it’s been published online and in Cat’s book - so of course I bought the book from Amazon.com). So this was my yarn of choice. I started them out on Susan Bates brand circs - because they were so much cheaper than Addi Turbos. Well, the SB’s do the job, but the Addis make the job WAY easier and fun. There’s almost no drag on the ATs as you slide the needles back and forth thru the stitches. BTW - this front sock really isn’t way BIGGER than the back sock. Probably a little bit, but it’s really pretty close in size. They’re both big. They’d probably fit Michael, but I’m not sure he’d wear them, so I’m keeping them. They’re done in a rib knit, so they will accommodate a pretty good size-range. Next socks on the needles with a blue-denim yarn of this same brand are called “Jaywalkers” and I’m blindly following Cat’s instructions on how to adapt a DPN pattern to 2 circs. Will post the results here, of course.
